His Excellency, the President of the Italian Republic, Mr. Sergio Mattarella, welcomed His Excellency, the Secretary General of the Muslim World League (MWL) and Chairman of the Organization of Muslim Scholars, His Eminence Sheikh Dr. Muhammad bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa, at the Presidential Palace in Rome.
During the meeting, they discussed several important issues, emphasizing the significance of religious contributions in supporting global peace efforts and fostering friendship among nations. They acknowledged that many conflicts throughout history have been fueled by misinterpretations of religions.
Dr. Al-Issa emphasized that Islam advocates mutual understanding between nations and peoples, respect for human dignity, and peaceful coexistence. He highlighted key principles from the Charter of Madinah and the Makkah Charter of Makkah.
Dr. Al-Issa also expressed his gratitude to His Excellency for his fair stance on Palestinian rights, particularly his support for the essential two-state solution.
He highlighted the profound religious and intellectual awareness he observed among the leaders of the Italian Islamic community, which reflects the true essence of Islam. Dr. Al-Issa praised their pride in their national identity, respect for Italy’s constitution, and their exemplary coexistence within the unity of Italian society, based on the principles of comprehensive citizenship, all while respecting religious diversity.
His Excellency, the President of Italy, expressed his appreciation for the efforts of the Muslim World League (MWL), under the leadership of its Secretary General, in promoting religious and civilizational peace. He commended the values of Islam in this regard, emphasizing that extremism—regardless of its origin—represents only itself and does not reflect the civilizational values upheld by religions.
