Al-Ahsa Chairs UCCN Crafts and Folk Art Sub-Network Meeting in Bulgaria

Al-Ahsa chaired the UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN) Crafts and Folk Art Sub-Network Annual Meeting today in Gabrovo, Bulgaria, bringing together representatives from 20 member cities worldwide.

Addressing delegates, Al-Ahsa Mayor Esam AlMulla reviewed the governorate's experience deploying cultural heritage to foster social cohesion and sustainable development since joining the network in 2015 through the Al-Ahsa Municipality. He highlighted core strategic themes including culture and innovation, workforce upskilling, and inter-city cooperation.

AlMulla emphasized the principle of "cultural resilience," defining it as an evolving practice that safeguards identity while adapting traditions across generations. He noted that emerging technologies and artificial intelligence serve as complementary tools that empower local artisans to document craftsmanship, innovate, and access global markets without eroding cultural authenticity.
