Vice Foreign Minister Heads Saudi Delegation at Arab League Council’s 165th Ordinary Session
Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Waleed Elkhereiji headed Saudi Arabia’s delegation to the 165th ordinary session of the Council of the League of Arab States at the ministerial level, held on Sunday.
Elkhereiji participated in the session via video conference on behalf of Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah.
The council issued a declaration on “the heinous Iranian attacks on the security and sovereignty of a number of Arab nations,” reaffirming its condemnation of these attacks targeting infrastructure and residential areas.
The declaration emphasized the right of targeted states to defend themselves under Article 51 of the United Nations Charter. The council expressed support for all measures taken by the affected states to defend their territories, stressing that these blatant attacks cannot be justified or accepted under any pretext.
It called on Iran to swiftly implement UN Security Council Resolution 2817 to immediately cease aggression, and condemned Iran’s measures aimed at closing the Strait of Hormuz or disrupting international navigation, or threatening freedom of passage in Bab El-Mandeb and international waters.
The council welcomed the United Nations Human Rights Council’s adoption of a resolution on the human rights impact of Iran’s unjustified attacks against Arab states. The council called on Iran to provide full, effective, and immediate compensation to all victims for damages and losses. It also rejected Iran’s continued funding, arming, and mobilization of its affiliated militias in several Arab countries.
The council also welcomed the Lebanese government’s decision to restrict unauthorized weapons.
Deputy Minister for International Multilateral Affairs Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Rassi and Director of the Arab League Department Emad Elias attended the meeting.
