Weqaa Center Deploys Integrated Technologies to Break Disease Transmission Chains

The National Center for the Prevention and Control of Plant Pests and Animal Diseases (Weqaa Center) is implementing integrated biosecurity programs that utilize environmental, biological, and chemical controls alongside advanced technology to break disease transmission chains and protect public and animal health.

By focusing on integrated vector management, the center employs evidence-based decision-making to sustainably reduce the density of disease-carrying insects like mosquitoes and midges.

In 2025, the center achieved significant milestones, conducting 91,054 entomological surveys and 155,724 environmental control operations. These field efforts are supported by the automation of epidemiological investigation procedures, which facilitates rapid data collection and analysis.

Complementing these efforts, an animal epidemic diseases surveillance and investigation program ensures the quality of vaccination campaigns and emergency response capabilities. During 2025, teams conducted over 5,000 field visits across more than 15,000 farms nationwide, reflecting Weqaa’s commitment to the One Health concept to ensure a safe environment for livestock while supporting the Kingdom’s economic sustainability and public health.
