GFSA Steps Up Efforts to Reduce Food Loss, Waste During Hajj Season 1447 AH
The General Food Security Authority (GFSA), represented by the national program for reducing food loss and waste (Letadom), continued the 1447 AH Hajj season operations through an integrated field and awareness ecosystem implemented in partnership with relevant entities and service providers.
The season witnessed the participation of more than 190 specialized companies from the domestic and international pilgrim sectors in workshops and coordination meetings. The efforts resulted in the signing of more than 65 cooperation agreements between service providers and food preservation associations to ensure the rapid, efficient, and safe redistribution of surplus food.
The authority also activated the “Letadom” app to measure food waste and monitor surplus at service sites. In addition, it implemented a multilingual awareness initiative targeting pilgrims and service providers to promote responsible consumption under the “Hajj Without Waste” concept, supported by 32 service packages and symbolic gifts.
