Saudi Arabia Concludes Its Participation in WSIS, Reaffirming Its Digital Leadership and Support for Global Sustainable Development

Saudi Arabia concluded its participation in the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) in Geneva, Switzerland, after a series of events, meetings, and international engagements that highlighted the Kingdom's dedication to fostering a sustainable and inclusive digital future and supporting the goals of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

 The Saudi delegation to the forum was led by Minister of Communications and Information Technology and Communications, Space and Technology Commission (CST) board Chairman Eng. Abdullah Alswaha, along with Communications Vice Minister and CST acting Governor Eng. Haytham AlOhali. They highlighted the Kingdom's pioneering achievements and leadership in the fields of communications, technology, and artificial intelligence (AI) that contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and elevating Saudi Arabia's global standing.

 The Saudi delegation's participation in the forum also underscored the Kingdom's ambitious vision, which focuses on investing in advanced digital infrastructure, developing national talent, and fostering innovation as a key driver for sustainable development.The contributions also reflected the Kingdom's significant progress in global indicators, as it ranks first globally in the ICT Development Index issued by the ITU, and sixth in the 2024 E-Government Development Index.

 During the forum, the Kingdom announced receiving a WSIS prize and three Certificates of Excellence for leading national projects, including the "Madrasati" platform, the Technical Enablement program for non-profit organizations, the International AI Olympiad, and the AI Platform for Animal Health project. These recognitions highlight its ability to deliver innovative technical solutions with a sustainable social and economic impact.

 Saudi Arabia actively participated in executive sessions and bilateral meetings during the forum, engaging in discussions on future international partnerships and exploring opportunities for cooperation in regulation, technical investment, and digital sustainability with global leaders in the communications and technology sectors. The Kingdom also hosted an international session on "Fostering Sustainable Digital Innovation," with participation by various national entities and international organizations.

 Its participation highlights Saudi Arabia's position as a global hub for digital collaboration. It reflects its vision of harnessing technology to serve humanity and promote inclusive development as the Kingdom prepares to host the Global Symposium for Regulators (GSR) in Riyadh in September, reaffirming its pioneering role in shaping the future of communications and technology worldwide.
