Hot Air Balloons Adorn Skies of AlUla
Hot air balloons have taken to the skies across AlUla Governorate, offering visitors panoramic aerial views of the region's natural and archaeological landmarks during sunrise flights organized under the November experiences program.
The one-hour flights allow visitors to soar above AlUla's distinctive topography, taking in expansive views of sandstone mountains, valleys, lush date palm oases, and the ancient carved tombs of the UNESCO World Heritage archaeological site of Hegra.
The experience begins at dawn with authentic Saudi hospitality, serving traditional coffee and dates, followed by pre-flight safety briefings and boarding procedures. As the balloons ascend, the quiet early-morning atmosphere provides visitors with scenic opportunities for aerial sightseeing and photography.
Flights operate daily via advance booking, with launch sites determined each morning according to local wind and weather conditions. Field logistics, passenger transfers, and balloon operations are overseen by a joint team of Saudi and international pilots under the supervision of the Saudi Arabian Hot Air Ballooning Federation, reflecting the active role of qualified national talent in managing aerial sports.
The federation continues to develop the ballooning sector and qualify national cadres through internationally accredited training programs, expanding local expertise in line with Saudi Vision 2030 goals.
