Italian Thistle Discovered in Northern Borders Region

The Italian thistle (Carduus pycnocephalus), also known as cardoon, has recently been observed in wild areas of Northern Borders Region, contributing to the plant diversity of this arid area.

 Native to the Mediterranean, the plant’s adaptability has enabled its spread into the Kingdom’s northern territory. Its emergence aligns with Saudi Arabia’s growing emphasis on vegetation preservation and the development of wild areas, as part of Vision 2030’s environmental sustainability initiatives.
