Northern Borders Region: Key Stopover for Migratory Birds

Northern Borders Region serves as a vital migratory route for birds, with its balanced environment and varied terrain supporting over 300 species each year.
Chairman of the Aman Environmental Association Nasser Al-Majlad said the region's strategic location, connecting the continents of the Old World, makes it one of the most important migratory paths. Its rich environmental diversity and abundant natural vegetation further attract both transient and resident bird species.
He stated that the ongoing passage of these birds through the region strongly indicates ecosystem stability and natural balance. The seasonal migration also adds an aesthetic and cultural richness, offering residents and nature enthusiasts alike a unique opportunity to experience the beauty of the natural world.
Saudi Arabia actively observes World Migratory Bird Day in May annually, which is dedicated to conserving migratory birds and their habitats, raising awareness about the threats they face, and emphasizing their environmental significance. With this year's theme, "Shared Spaces: Creating Bird-Friendly Cities and Communities," the day advocates for incorporating migratory birds into urban planning and addressing the environmental challenges they encounter in cities.
