NCVC Wins Gold Award in Sustainability at Stevie® Awards
The National Center for Vegetation Cover Development and Combating Desertification (NCVC) has won the Gold Award in the sustainability category at the 2024 Middle East & North Africa Stevie® Awards, according to an NCVC news release. The award was presented to General Manager of Afforestation Program Eng. Ahmad Alanazi during the closing ceremony in Istanbul, Türkiye. Saudi Aramco claimed second place, while Etihad Rail took third.
The NCVC’s recognition comes through its participation in the National Greening Program, a key initiative supporting the goals of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 by focusing on environmental conservation, natural resource protection, expanding green spaces, and combating desertification. The program emphasizes sustainable irrigation practices and ensures that tree species selected are compatible with the local ecosystem and climate, all contributing toward the goal of greening 10 Billion Trees under the Saudi Green Initiative.
The Stevie® Awards, established in 2002, are presented to leading organizations worldwide in recognition of outstanding achievements and positive contributions by organizations and professionals across the globe. It is among the most widely participated awards, with over 60 countries competing across various categories and fields.
According to the release, the NCVC is committed to protecting, preserving, and monitoring vegetation cover areas; rehabilitating degraded sites; and combating illegal logging. It oversees the management of rangelands, regulates grazing activities, and protects national forests and parks. Additionally, the NCVC’s initiatives support global efforts to combat climate change and reduce carbon emissions, reinforcing sustainable environmental and economic development in line with the Saudi Green Initiative.
