Saudi Traffic Department Prepares Field Security Plans and Carries out Continuous Monitoring to Improve Traffic Safety
In line with Saudi Arabia's commitment to improving public and traffic safety on its road network, the General Department of Traffic has implemented advanced field strategies to address the risk of traffic accidents.
By leveraging global technological advancements and AI, the department seeks to raise awareness, enforce traffic regulations, and significantly reduce road accident fatalities.
The department's awareness and enforcement initiatives have resulted in a remarkable 50% reduction in deaths due to traffic accidents. Key measures include identifying and monitoring accident-prone areas, referred to as "black spots", in collaboration with relevant authorities. Engineering and control solutions have been proposed and implemented, including automatic monitoring systems for high-risk locations, enhanced field presence of mobile and foot patrols, and 24/7 emergency response services via the numbers 911, in Makkah, Riyadh, and the Eastern Region, and 933 in other regions. These efforts have enabled response times to traffic accidents and humanitarian cases to remain under 10 minutes.
The General Department of Traffic has integrated cutting-edge technology into its operations, automating monitoring traffic violations and applying AI-driven solutions to improve compliance.
The department also prioritizes traffic awareness, organizing exhibitions, conferences, and campaigns to educate road users, reduce unsafe driving behaviors, and promote compliance with traffic laws among citizens, residents, and visitors.
To further enhance traffic safety, the department has focused on improving driving skills through modern training methods at driving schools throughout the Kingdom. These schools, supervised by highly qualified trainers, offer top-tier education and practical skills to trainees, both men and women. Curricula are regularly updated to meet the highest standards, and ensure that drivers are well prepared to navigate roads safely.
