Two Holy Mosques General Authority Uses AI at Grand Mosque Gates

The General Authority for the Care of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque is deploying advanced artificial intelligence (AI) technology, using sensor readers at the gates of the Grand Mosque. The technology monitors crowd numbers at the main entrances to enhance operational efficiency by tracking flows, enabling relevant authorities to make informed decisions for effective crowd management and improved movement.

Smart cameras detect entry and exit movements, providing real-time monitoring of pilgrim flows and accurately identifying congestion points. The dual system of sensors and cameras helps optimize crowd distribution within the Grand Mosque, particularly in the levels of the Mataf (circumambulation area) and Masa (area for Sa'i). This aids in regulating movement and enhancing visitor safety, especially during peak hours, and it facilitates smoother entry and exit by providing accurate data for decision-making.

The authority stated that the technology is being used to precisely monitor entry and exit movements, enhance the efficiency of crowd management systems, develop methods for tracking human flows within the Grand Mosque, and analyze congestion. It provides crucial support to relevant authorities working in the Grand Mosque to improve pilgrim grouping, optimize operations by distributing roles, and redirect high densities to achieve the highest levels of flow and organization.

The step is part of the authority's ongoing efforts to use technology to enhance services for pilgrims and make decisions based on accurate data and comprehensive analysis of movement within the Grand Mosque.
