Masam Project Clears over 1,400 Mines in Yemen

The “Masam” project of King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) for clearing mines in Yemen removed 1,408 mines during the second week of April across various regions of the country, including 67 anti-tank mines, 10 anti-personnel mines, 1,329 unexploded ordnance, and two improvised explosive devices.

 Masam teams cleared one item of unexploded ordnance in the Hays District of Al-Hodeidah Governorate. In the Al-Mukalla District of Hadramout Governorate, 1,094 unexploded ordnance and two improvised explosive devices were removed. In the Midi District of Hajjah Governorate, the team cleared eight anti-personnel mines, 60 anti-tank mines, and 36 unexploded ordnance, while in the Al-Mudarabah District of Lahij Governorate, six anti-tank mines were removed.

 In Marib Governorate, one unexploded ordnance was cleared in Al-Wadi District, and 126 unexploded ordnances were cleared in Harib District. In the Asilan District of Shabwah Governorate, two unexploded ordnance items were removed.

 In Taiz Governorate, three unexploded ordnance were cleared in Al-Mokha District; in Dhubab District, one anti-tank mine and 56 unexploded ordnance were removed; and in Saluh District, two anti-personnel mines and 10 unexploded ordnance were cleared.

 This brings the total number of mines cleared since the launch of the Masam project to 553,828, after they were indiscriminately planted across Yemeni lands, posing a threat to the lives of innocent civilians, including children, women, and the elderly.

 Through its humanitarian arm KSrelief, Saudi Arabia continues its efforts to clear mines from Yemeni territories under a project that enhances civilian safety and enables the Yemeni people to live in a safe and dignified environment.
