"Through Her Eyes” inspired by Under the Abaya — a shot on iPhone exhibition celebrating Saudi women at XP Music Futures
Today, Under the Abaya unveils "Through Her Eyes", a shot on iPhone photography exhibition celebrating the creativity, identity, and community of Saudi women. The exhibition will be on display for 4th - 6th December at XP Music Futures in Jax district.
Through Her Eyes is a collective portrait of community — a visual dialogue between women who turn their lens toward one another. Each frame captures the unspoken strength revealed within the female gaze. Deeply inspired by Under the Abaya, the exhibit reflects the shared stories of women across Saudi Arabia: their creativity, individuality, heritage, and sense of belonging.
Curator and founder of Under the Abaya, Marriam Mossalli, describes the exhibition as “a powerful extension of Under the Abaya’s mission, providing a platform for Saudi women to share their stories, experiences, and perspectives. By featuring talented Saudi women photographing one another, the project highlights both their individuality and universality, while showcasing their creativity.”
The project showcases the capabilities of iPhone 17 Pro, empowering photographers to capture intimate, unfiltered moments with ease. As participating creator and photographer, Abeer Ahmad, explains "The iPhone gives me greater freedom to approach women naturally and without pretense. The advanced 48MP camera and ProRAW features let me to capture small details — honest, unrepeatable moments that don’t wait for complicated setups."
Music producer and DJ HiFi adds "Shooting with the iPhone 17 Pro gives me a freedom that feels instinctive. Its portability makes it easy for me to move with my subject, follow their energy, and stay fully present instead of getting lost in equipment. It allows me to tell my stories and my Saudi experience with less technical distance and more emotional sincerity.”
Mossalli notes how the creative process revealed deeper dynamics within the community explaining, “One of the most surprising aspects was witnessing the bonds formed between the women. Photographing one another created a sense of trust and vulnerability, allowing them to open up and share their true selves. It reaffirmed that women’s identity in Saudi Arabia is deeply rooted in community and connection.”
She also highlights how accessible technology played a transformative role “Using the iPhone is a testament to the democratizing power of technology. Accessible tools like smartphones are empowering Saudi creatives to tell their stories and reach global audiences without traditional gatekeepers. This shift is revolutionizing how Saudi women express themselves, showcase their talents, and inspire the next generation.”
