Kenya's capital, Nairobi, hosted the largest Qur'anic celebration in Africa, organized by the Muslim World League under the title: "The Elite Ten Quranic Recitations Competition". The event was attended by His Excellency the Secretary General of the Muslim World League, the President of the Council of Senior Scholars, Sheikh Dr. Muhammad bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa, along with a wide participation of Qur'an memorizers who have been certified in the ten recitations from around the world, and prominent African scholars.
Dr. Al-Issa honored the winners of the competition, which is considered the first of its kind globally, where memorizers compete in the mastery of reciting the Qur'an according to both the minor and major ten recitations.
The competition was distinguished by its noble objectives in promoting the ten Quranic recitations, with participants competing in two branches: the major ten recitations and the minor ten recitations.
African Muslims expressed their gratitude to the Muslim World League for this exceptional initiative. The Secretary General emphasized that the MWL is a blessing from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, gifted to the Islamic world. He highlighted that the MWL takes pride in serving the Qur'an and Sunnah, and within this honor, it undertakes the significant responsibility for which the Qur'an was revealed: teaching, guiding, and encouraging contemplation and application of its teachings.
Through the competition, the Muslim World League achieves several goals, the most important of which are raising awareness of the Quranic recitations, encouraging memorizers to study the science of recitations, fostering a spirit of healthy competition among them, motivating and honoring them, and ensuring their well-being. Additionally, it aims to cultivate a generation of Quran memorizers who are well-versed, distinguished, and embody the ethics and guidance of the Holy Qur'an.
