Riyadh to Host 14th Saudi Green Building Forum in October

Riyadh will host the 14th edition of the Saudi Green Building Forum (SGBF) from October 6-8, 2024, under the patronage of Minister of Municipalities and Housing Majid bin Abdullah Al-Hogail. The event will feature participation from numerous local and international leaders, experts, specialists, and investors in human and environmentally-friendly services and products.
The Ministry of Municipalities and Housing stated that the forum aims to foster cooperation and enhance creativity and innovation among partners and specialists in implementing green concepts. The goal is to increase the number of green cities, urban settlements, and projects, as well as to improve resilience against natural disasters.
The ministry highlighted that the forum will showcase the latest developments and best practices in reducing losses and enhancing economic and social benefits from natural disasters, including those related to water, building materials, and mitigating negative environmental impacts in urban areas and cities. This involves focusing on daily quality-of-life aspects such as air quality, waste management, noise reduction, and visual pollution.
The forum also aims to open new avenues for collaboration between local and global partners and specialists in applying green building concepts, reviewing Saudi Arabia's projects in this area, and increasing the number of green cities and urban settlements.
Additionally, the forum will feature a training workshop in collaboration with the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) on the concepts, procedures, and applications of sustainable development goals for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
The SGBF is recognized with consultative status by the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), as well as observer status with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) for environmental matters, the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) for climate issues, and the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) for desertification. It also holds cooperative trust status with the United Nations Department of Global Communications (UNDGC) in the UN Secretariat.
