Saudi Arabia Showcases Key Maritime Transport Initiatives in London

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, represented by the Transport General Authority (TGA), held an international exhibition in the British capital to showcase its most prominent initiatives and achievements in supporting the maritime transport industry. The event was attended by senior officials and saw wide participation from member states of the International Maritime Organization (IMO).

The exhibition was inaugurated in the presence of Saudi Ambassador to the United Kingdom Prince Khalid bin Bandar bin Sultan bin Abdulaziz and Minister of Transport and Logistic Services and TGA Chairman Saleh Al-Jasser, along with relevant government entities and representatives from embassies and maritime attachés.

The event underscored the Kingdom’s position as an active partner in the international maritime system and a key contributor to the development of global maritime regulations and practices. It also reflects its continued influential role within the IMO and its efforts to promote sustainability and enhance the efficiency of maritime supply chains.

The exhibition served as a platform to showcase the academies and specialized centers established by the Kingdom, as well as its initiatives to localize talent and train seafarers, officers, and marine engineers. It also highlighted smart projects that support automation in the sector, enhancing operational efficiency and environmental sustainability.

In recent years, the Saudi maritime sector has witnessed rapid growth, with the number of Saudi-flagged vessels reaching 409, with a total gross tonnage exceeding 100,000 tons and a deadweight tonnage (DWT) of 16,583,171. The number of registered Saudi seafarers has increased to 3,000, thanks to the Kingdom’s specialized programs and regulatory initiatives aimed at empowering national maritime capabilities.

These efforts build upon Saudi Arabia’s active role in the IMO in advancing the maritime transport industry through a comprehensive vision that extends beyond fleet development or regulatory modernization. It encompasses the creation of an advanced global maritime system grounded in operational excellence, human capital investment, and cutting-edge technology for a promising and sustainable maritime future.

This high-level presence at the exhibition reaffirmed the Kingdom’s active participation in international forums. Prince Khalid bin Bandar noted that the exhibition reflects Saudi Arabia’s commitment to international cooperation and highlights the Kingdom’s spirit of hospitality and pursuit of sustainable, collaborative maritime partnerships.

Minister Al-Jasser emphasized that the Kingdom is steadily moving toward leadership in maritime transport, driven by Vision 2030 and investment in talent and technology to strengthen its position as a global logistics hub.
