Al Watania for Industries, China’s DHX Group Sign Deal to Establish Tinplate Plant in Saudi Arabia

Al Watania for Industries and China's Donghexin (DHX) Group have signed a partnership agreement to establish the first tinplate production plant of its kind in Saudi Arabia and the region.
The signing ceremony took place under the auspices of Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources Bandar Alkhorayef and was attended by Vice Minister for Mining Affairs Eng. Khalid Al-Mudaifer, Chairman of the DHX Group Li Dong, and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Al Watania for Industries Mosaed Al-Ohali.
The new plant will be located in Ras Al-Khair Industrial City and is expected to meet the growing demand for metal packaging solutions. Half of the production will serve the domestic market, while the remaining half will be exported. The project will create over 500 direct job opportunities and employ environmentally friendly technologies.
Commercial operations are scheduled to begin in mid-2027, with an annual production capacity of 400,000 tons. This strategic initiative supports Saudi Vision 2030 objectives to diversify the national economy, localize industrial technologies, and expand the Kingdom’s manufacturing base.
The project marks a significant step toward localizing the supply chain for the packaging sector and addressing domestic demand for tinplate and tin-free steel (TFS), essential materials for industries such as food and beverage, paints, oils, and chemicals.
