KSrelief Implements 152 Projects Worth Over $400 Million to Enhance Global Water Security
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, through its humanitarian arm the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief), continues its leading humanitarian role in supporting vital sectors, giving the water and environmental sanitation sector special attention in affected countries around the world, stemming from its belief in the importance of water as a fundamental element for life and a pillar for achieving health and social stability, contributing to providing a safe and healthy environment for communities and individuals and enhancing water security and its sustainability.
KSrelief implemented 152 humanitarian projects in the water and environmental sanitation sector across 22 countries worldwide, totaling more than $409,990,000. The Republic of Yemen was among the beneficiary countries, with 55 implemented water projects valued at $245,654,000, including the provision of potable water for drinking and human use in the governorates of Marib, Al-Jawf, Hajjah, and Saada. Another project was also implemented for drilling and developing wells in the governorates of Hadramout, Al-Hudaydah, and Shabwa, and a project to improve access to water and environmental sanitation services in 45 health centers and raise the level of monitoring and evaluation in 117 other health centers in Yemen, in addition to securing and improving access to water, environmental sanitation, and health services in 15 governorates, along with supporting the Yemeni Ministry of Water and Environment with technical, logistical, and financial services.

The center also worked to implement vital projects to support the water sector in the Republic of the Sudan, including drilling 15 deep wells in Northern State, rehabilitating Al-Manara station for treating Nile water by securing electricity generators for the Saudi Hospital for Women and Maternity and Al-Buluk Specialized Children's Hospital in Omdurman, in addition to drilling 33 medium-depth wells in various areas and supporting states affected by floods.
The center's specialized water projects also included other countries, such as Iraq, Tajikistan, Somalia, Palestine, Pakistan, Indonesia, Afghanistan, Myanmar, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Niger, and others, to raise water security levels in these countries.
The world celebrates World Water Day on March 22 of each year as an occasion to emphasize the importance of the water sector as a fundamental element in achieving food security, development, and stability. This aligns with the Kingdom's contributions through KSrelief to support international initiatives to address water-related challenges and help build a decent life and a better future for future generations.
Since its establishment 10 years ago, KSrelief has implemented 4,219 humanitarian and relief projects in various vital sectors in 113 countries, at a cost exceeding $8.344 billion.
