Tarshid Completes Energy Efficiency Project at Tabuk University Buildings, Saving 24% Consumption

The National Energy Services Company (Tarshid) and Tabuk University have completed the retrofitting project for the university’s 28 buildings and facilities to increase energy efficiency and reduce consumption, adhering to the best global standards.
Tarshid Managing Director and CEO Waleed Al-Ghreri said that the company conducted field surveys and technical studies of the buildings and facilities within the project scope, adding that these studies highlighted the importance of increasing energy efficiency and reducing consumption.
It was also found that applying 15 key standards was essential. These standards included control systems, air conditioning, and lighting systems, replacing chillers with more energy-efficient models, installing control systems for air conditioning units, and upgrading the control of air handling units, as well as occupancy sensors and motion detectors.
The lighting systems were also upgraded by replacing traditional lighting with energy-efficient LED lights, which provide high performance in operational environments.
The project aims to reduce annual electricity consumption from about 72 million kilowatt-hours to around 55 million kilowatt-hours annually, with a reduction of 24% and improved performance in air conditioning and lighting systems. The expected annual savings is equivalent to conserving more than 27,000 barrels of oil and preventing harmful carbon emissions of about 9,000 metric tons, environmentally equivalent to planting over 162,000 saplings.
Tarshid’s mission aligns with the Saudi Vision 2030, aiming to achieve significant energy savings and reduce carbon emissions as part of the Kingdom’s strategic sustainability goals.
