Wadi Lajab: Captivating Tourist Destination with Stunning Geological Formations in Jazan

Wadi Lajab, located in Al-Reith Governorate in the northern part of Jazan Region, is a prominent natural and tourist attraction popular among geology enthusiasts and adventurers from both within and outside the Kingdom.
The valley is situated approximately 150 kilometers north of the city of Jizan and is surrounded by distinctive mountainous terrain. It features a rift and a fracture in the eastern part of Al-Qahar Mountain, with geological origins dating back to the era of African tectonic movements. This geological significance enhances Wadi Lajab’s appeal as a tourist destination.
Wadi Lajab is an 11-kilometer-long mountain valley that extends along the eastern edge of Al-Qahar Mountain and intersects with another crack stretching about two kilometers. The unique rock formations within the valley display a variety of colors and layers, setting them apart from the surrounding mountains and creating a visually striking landscape. Visitors can drive approximately two kilometers into the valley before the path narrows, transitioning into a pedestrian trail adorned with waterfalls and ponds that enrich the overall experience.
The valley’s sides are characterized by natural hanging gardens with towering palm trees exceeding 30 meters in height, alongside perennial trees nestled among the towering rocks. This scenery showcases the diversity of vegetation and the beauty of the local environment.
In an interview with the Saudi Press Agency, Rai bin Yahya Al-Reithi noted that the valley features fresh water flowing year-round, attracting visitors to engage in activities such as mountain climbing, swimming in natural ponds, and hiking through its picturesque landscapes. He emphasized that Wadi Lajab has become a major tourist destination in the region.
Today, Wadi Lajab stands out as a geological and environmental masterpiece that boosts national tourism and showcases the Kingdom’s natural diversity. This is part of broader development projects in Jazan and other regions that contribute to strengthening the tourism sector and achieving the state’s goals.
