OIC Welcomes Special Rapporteur’s Report on Human Rights in Occupied Palestinian Territory
The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) welcomed the report issued by Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967 Francesca Albanese, titled “Torture and Genocide.”
The General Secretariat noted the seriousness of the report’s findings, which document the Israeli occupation’s use of torture as part of ongoing violations against the Palestinian people, particularly prisoners. These include dehumanization, physical and psychological torture, sexual violence, collective punishment, starvation, forced displacement, siege, destruction of infrastructure, and obstruction of humanitarian aid. The report considers these practices violations under international criminal law.
The General Secretariat reaffirmed its support for the role of the special rapporteur. It called on the international community to assume its legal, political, and moral responsibilities to implement the report’s recommendations, end violations, ensure accountability, and put an end to impunity.
