Bahraini Deputy Prime Minister Urges Resolving Palestinian Issue to Safeguard Rights of Regional Peoples to Live in Security, Harmony
Kingdom of Bahrain Deputy Prime Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Abdullah Al-Khalifa affirmed his country's longstanding call for a just and lasting peace in the Middle East. He emphasized the necessity of resolving the Palestinian issue to ensure that all people in the region can live in security and harmony.
This statement was made during his participation in the Extraordinary Arab and Islamic Summit held today in Riyadh.
"The Kingdom of Bahrain calls upon the international community, especially the United Nations (UN) Security Council, to fulfill its responsibilities by effectively responding to Bahrain's initiative, which was endorsed at the 'Bahrain Summit' held in Manama last May," he stated. “This initiative aims to convene an international peace conference and support the rights of the Palestinian people to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state along the 1967 borders, with east Jerusalem as its capital.”
“Furthermore, we call for an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and southern Lebanon, the release of hostages, the opening of humanitarian corridors, and the initiation of reconstruction efforts to facilitate the return of refugees. It is also crucial to end the illegal Israeli occupation, preserve the historical and legal status of Jerusalem, prevent violence and settlement expansion in the West Bank, and implement UN Security Council Resolution 1701 on Lebanon in all its aspects,” said the deputy prime minister.
“Additionally, we emphasize the need to uphold the Taif Agreement to ensure Lebanon's security, stability, and territorial integrity and to enhance the efforts of the United Nations and its agencies in the fields of peacekeeping and humanitarian assistance,” he said.
