KSrelief Launches Food Security Support Project in Pakistan
King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) has launched a food security support project in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan for 2024–2025.
The inauguration ceremony took place at the Saudi Embassy in Islamabad and was attended by Saudi Ambassador to Pakistan Nawaf bin Saeed Al-Malki, Pakistan's Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain, Acting Director of KSrelief's Pakistan Branch Abdullah Al-Baqami, and several officials.
As part of the project, 147,500 food baskets—each weighing 95 kilograms and containing essential food items sufficient to sustain a family for one month—will be distributed across the provinces of Sindh, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Punjab, and Kashmir, benefiting 1,032,500 individuals.
Ambassador Al-Malki stated that the project aligns with the directives of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and His Royal Highness the Crown Prince, reflecting Saudi Arabia's unwavering support for its brothers in Pakistan. He emphasized that the initiative is one of many undertaken by KSrelief to assist families most in need, particularly in flood-affected areas across the country.
Minister Hussain expressed his gratitude, on behalf of the Pakistani government and people, to the Saudi leadership and government for their ongoing humanitarian efforts. He highlighted that this project is part of KSrelief's continuous commitment to aiding Pakistani families, especially those suffering from food insecurity in disaster-stricken regions.
Acting Director Al-Baqami underscored that the center's role extends beyond disaster response, aiming to alleviate food insecurity and improve nutritional outcomes. He stated that KSrelief seeks to make a tangible, positive impact on the lives of those in need, contributing to resilience and stability in affected communities across Pakistan.
The project will be implemented in collaboration with Pakistan's National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and other partners. It is part of the Kingdom’s broader humanitarian and relief efforts, represented by KSrelief, to support nations worldwide.
