MENA's First Saudi Arabian Internet Exchange Becomes Member of the Terabit Club

The Saudi Arabian Internet Exchange "SAIX" at King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology "KACST" has accomplished an amazing feat by surpassing 1 Tbps, with high operational efficiency and dependable performance. This puts it at the forefront of the region's IXPs and makes it the only one among the 66 IXPs that are members of the Terabit Club globally.
‏This accomplishment demonstrates the Kingdom's capacity to lead the digital era in accordance with the objectives of Vision 2030. Its highly skilled national cadres and advanced digital infrastructure have made it a desirable location for multinational corporations, as proven by the fact that SAIX is home to companies like Google, Huawei, and Alibaba.
‏SAIX plays a pivotal role in improving the quality of connectivity between local companies, raising the level of efficiency and reliability of digital services in the Kingdom, and enhancing cybersecurity, by keeping local Internet traffic within the Kingdom to enhance efficiency and security, in addition to its role in enhancing the visibility of the Kingdom's Internet addresses by more than 98%, which was reflected in the growth in the volume of traffic and the number of connected networks, which started at 30 Gbps, then doubled more than five times to reach 165 Gbps, until it reached more than 1 Tbps today.
‏SAIX is an initiative run by KACST's Internet Services Unit and overseen by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, to contribute to increasing the efficiency of local data exchange and improving the speed of communication for users within the Kingdom. Likewise, SAIX assists in connecting Internet service providers in the Kingdom, supporting the digital economy, and encouraging the growth of digital businesses, such as e-commerce, cloud computing, and content streaming services, in addition to providing an advanced infrastructure for local and international companies and paving the way for neighboring countries to benefit from the Kingdom's cutting-edge technological capabilities.
