GASTAT Releases 2023 Household Energy Statistics
The General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT) released today the Household Energy Statistics Publication for 2023.
According to the publication, the Riyadh Region dominated residential electrical energy consumption at 28.1%, followed by Makkah Region at 25.5%, and the Eastern Region at 16.7%. Conversely, data highlighted Al-Baha Region as the lowest consumer of electrical energy, accounting for only 0.9% among administrative regions.
The results also showed that the average weekly operating hours for water heating appliances was 62.1 hours in 2023, while air conditioning units operated for an average of 51.5 hours per week. Heating appliances averaged 17.9 hours of operation weekly, and cooking appliances were used for an average of 6.8 hours per week.
Data also highlighted that 92.1% of households exhibited a strong interest in energy conservation. Moreover, 83.6% of households practiced energy-saving methods when using household appliances. Additionally, 55.2% of households expressed readiness to invest in replacing old appliances with newer, more energy-efficient models. The results also showed that 42.3% of households in the Kingdom were interested in adopting solar energy for their homes.
In the residential sector, 98.4% of households utilized various energy sources for cooking. Among these, 89% used gas, while 9.3% relied on electricity for cooking. The remaining 0.1% of households used alternative energy sources for cooking.
According to GASTAT, the publication is based on two main sources: data collected from the Household Energy Survey, and administrative records obtained from the Ministry of Energy.
The publication offers insights into the usage of diverse energy forms in different types of dwellings and their ownership status across Saudi Arabia.
