NCM CEO: Center Studies Climate Shift Causing Peak Rainfall to Move from November to December
National Center for Meteorology (NCM) CEO Dr. Ayman Ghulam emphasized that NCM’s advance bulletins and proactive reports over the past days helped authorities respond effectively to the rainfall affecting most regions of the Kingdom, with accurate information and continuous updates supporting preparedness and speeding up decision-making.
While monitoring the rainfall situation from the operations room, Ghulam noted that the swift response of relevant entities to the center’s warnings and predictive data enhanced coordination and the effective handling of weather developments. He added that this response positively reinforced safety measures and helped mitigate the impacts of the conditions.
The CEO highlighted recent scientific studies confirming a climatic shift in the Kingdom’s rainfall, reflected in the movement of peak precipitation from November to December. He said that the center’s General Department of Research, Development, and Innovation is conducting specialized studies to understand these changes, their atmospheric systems, and their future projections.
Ghulam concluded by reiterating NCM’s commitment to strengthening the early warning system, enhancing monitoring and forecasting capabilities, and ensuring the highest level of response to impactful weather conditions while supporting field authorities with accurate and timely information.
