MWAN Oversees First Investment Model for Establishing and Operating Waste Engineering Cell in Makkah

The National Center for Waste Management (MWAN) announced the launch of several initiatives and projects aimed at providing a clean and healthy environment for pilgrims throughout the Hajj season. These initiatives reflect MWAN’s commitment to environmental protection and improving the quality of life in Makkah, as part of ongoing efforts to preserve the environment and enhance environmental awareness during the Hajj season 1445 AH.

Among the projects prioritized by MWAN is the construction and operation of an engineering cell for disposing of solid waste from slaughterhouses in Makkah. This project aims to reduce the negative environmental and health impacts associated with such waste. Additionally, it serves as a practical and effective model for handling slaughterhouse waste, striving for environmental sustainability and providing a healthy, clean environment for the pilgrims.

Domestic slaughterhouses in Makkah produce over 22,000 tons of waste annually, with 12,169 tons generated during the Hajj season alone. These figures highlight the crucial role of MWAN in managing these massive amounts of waste in sustainable and efficient ways.
