Handicrafts at Klija Festival Reflect Richness of Folk Heritage
The handicrafts pavilion at the Klija Festival stands out as one of the festival’s main attractions, showcasing the richness of folk heritage and the craftsmanship of artisans who create authentic handmade products that reflect the region’s cultural identity.
The pavilion features a diverse range of traditional crafts, including Sadu weaving, palm frond weaving, traditional embroidery, and heritage utensils, alongside decorative items and household tools crafted using techniques passed down through generations, complemented by contemporary touches that appeal to modern visitors.
Several participants noted that the Klija Festival has played a vital role in supporting artisans by opening new marketing opportunities for their products, while also promoting traditional crafts and strengthening their presence in society, particularly among younger generations.
The pavilion has drawn strong visitor engagement through live demonstrations that illustrate different stages of production, adding an educational and cultural dimension that reinforces national heritage and underscores its importance. This focus on handicrafts aligns with the festival’s broader goals of celebrating popular heritage, supporting craft industries, and transforming them into sustainable economic resources that empower families working in the cottage industry and enhance cultural and tourism development in the region.
