Museums Commission to Host 4th BIENALSUR at the Saudi Arabia Museum of Contemporary Art
The Museums Commission is organizing the fourth edition of the International Contemporary Art Biennial of the South – BIENALSUR at the Saudi Arabia Museum of Contemporary Art (SAMoCA) in JAX District, Diriyah, running from October 15 to December 31, 2025. The exhibition further strengthens cultural exchange through art, imagination, and shared creativity.
According to a press release issued by the commission today, this edition marks ten years since BIENALSUR's inception in Buenos Aires. It has evolved into one of the most geographically expansive and culturally diverse contemporary art biennials, now spanning over 70 cities worldwide. The exhibition highlights local artistic practices alongside leading global artworks, reflecting BIENALSUR’s cross-border nature.
Under the title “LET’S PLAY: A Labyrinth of Options,” the exhibition presents an interactive artistic experience inspired by the concept of play and the novel Hopscotch by Argentine writer Julio Cortázar. It invites audiences into a visual dialogue that opens new horizons for exploring life, imagination, and possibility through contemporary art.
The release added that the exhibition features a distinguished group of Saudi and international artists. Saudi artists include Nasser Al Turki, Arwa Alneami, Rex Chouk, and Dur Kattan. Prominent international names include Carlos Amorales (Mexico), Christian Boltanski (France), Robbie Cooper (United Kingdom), Dias & Riedweg (Mauricio Dias, Brazil / Walter Riedweg, Switzerland), Félix González-Torres (US/Cuba), Glenda León (Cuba), Marcelino Melo (Brazil), Marta Minujín (Argentina), Vik Muniz (Brazil), Michelangelo Pistoletto (Italy), Liliana Porter (Argentina), Tansy Xiao (China), Erwin Wurm (Austria), and Aimée Zito Lema (Netherlands).
Hosting this exhibition underscores the Museums Commission’s commitment to fostering contemporary cultural and artistic practices. By making knowledge and art accessible to all, the commission works toward cultivating a vibrant and evolving cultural landscape.
The Saudi Arabia Museum of Contemporary Art (SAMoCA@Jax) is the first contemporary art museum in Saudi Arabia, and one of the museums under the Saudi Museums Commission. It serves as a vibrant platform for local and international artists to exchange, connect, and grow—shaping the future of contemporary art in the Kingdom and beyond.
