Dr. Sami Angawi receives “Global Stratalogues Lifetime Achievement Award”

Renowned Saudi architect and heritage preservationist Dr. Sami Angawi was presented with the prestigious Global Stratalogues Achievement Award during a VIP Welcoming Dinner for the Global Health Exhibition in Riyadh, attended by distinguished guests and industry leaders, recently.

Dr. Sami Angawi has dedicated his career to documenting and preserving the architectural heritage of the Hijaz region, with particular focus on the holy cities of Makkah and Madinah, as well as the historic port city of Jeddah. He is the architect of the IMC Hospital in Jeddah, embodying principles of healing by design and considering environmental factors across the physical, sensory, and psychological aspects. 

His work has been instrumental in raising global awareness of the importance of Islamic architectural heritage and the principles of sustainable, culturally informed design. The award recognizes Dr. Angawi's extraordinary contributions to advancing Islamic architecture and cultural heritage through design that harmonizes tradition, modernity, and the human spirit—embodying the timeless principle of balance, Al-Mizan.

In his tribute to Dr. Angawi, Oscar Wendel, Chairman of Global Stratalogues, highlighted the honoree's five decades of unwavering dedication to preserving the architectural heritage of the Islamic world. Wendel emphasized that Dr. Angawi's life's work has served as a bridge between the past and the future, demonstrating how traditional Islamic architectural principles can inform contemporary sustainable design. 

His advocacy has inspired a new generation of architects and urban planners to reconsider the value of cultural heritage in modern development. Dr Angawi’s architectural designs assert the importance of his Hijazi heritage with the common cultural heritage shared by both Western an Islamic societies.

Dr Angawi has a doctor of philosophy in Islamic architecture from the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London. The "Global Stratalogues Achievement Award" is an honor given by the organization Global Stratalogues to individuals for their groundbreaking work in areas like global accessibility and cultural heritage.
