AlUla Plant Nursery, Seed Bank Bolster Ecological Restoration with over 500 Plant Species

AlUla Governorate continues to consolidate its standing as an advanced model in ecological restoration through its native plant nursery and seed bank at the natural reserves, which supply reserves and the urban landscape, targeting more than 500 local plant species by 2030. This reflects a qualitative shift toward building a sustainable environment that reshapes vegetation cover in the heart of the desert.
 This comes within the efforts of the Royal Commission for AlUla (RCU), which is implementing integrated programs to rehabilitate ecosystems through producing more than one million native plant seedlings used in projects aimed at restoring and sustaining vegetation cover, supporting ecological balance and preserving biodiversity in the region.
 The RCU is leading one of the largest ecological restoration programs in the region, built on a network of natural reserves spanning more than 12,000 square kilometers. The restoration also includes thousands of hectares of natural rangelands, the release of more than 1,700 animals through rewilding programs with a focus on protecting endangered species, most notably the Arabian leopard.
 These efforts align with the targets of Saudi Vision 2030 and the Saudi Green Initiative, which seek to raise environmental sustainability levels, increase vegetation cover, protect endangered species, and improve quality of life, enhancing the Kingdom's standing as a global model in environmental protection and development.
