Grand Hajj Symposium Concludes in Jeddah, Focuses on Capability amidst Modern Challenges
The 49th Grand Hajj Symposium concluded yesterday in Jeddah, having focused on "Capability in Hajj and Contemporary Developments." Organized by the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah in partnership with the Council of Senior Scholars and the King Abdulaziz Foundation for Research and Archives (Darah), the symposium convened a select group of scholars and researchers from across the Islamic world.
The symposium's closing statement underscored the critical relevance of this year's topic in an era marked by diverse health, organizational, and environmental challenges. It highlighted that the performance of Hajj rituals is increasingly intertwined with organizational, physical, and financial capacities.
Participants affirmed the importance of clarifying the correct concept of "capability" (istita'ah) and the need to educate pilgrims about its various meanings and dimensions. This education aims to ensure pilgrims perform their rituals in a manner pleasing to Allah, without undue hardship or negligence. They also stressed the significance of enlightening pilgrims about the rules and regulations pertaining to the Hajj ritual, considering these an integral part of religious capabilities.
In their concluding remarks, the participants commended the efforts put into organizing the symposium, including its meticulous preparation and pertinent topic selection. They attributed the success to the unwavering support and empowerment provided by the wise leadership, praying for these efforts to be blessed, for the pilgrims' protection, and an accepted Hajj for all.
