World Bank Commends Saudi Arabia's AI Sandbox for Digital Learning

The World Bank has commended the AI Sandbox, a digital education testing environment launched by Saudi Arabia's National eLearning Center (NeLC), recognizing it as a comprehensive national model for the responsible adoption of artificial intelligence in education.
In a report on the initiative, the World Bank said: "The Saudi experience presents a comprehensive national model for the responsible application of artificial intelligence, combining experimentation, governance, capacity building, and coordination across the innovation ecosystem. This contributes to enhancing the quality of digital education and strengthening the readiness of educational institutions for the demands of the future."
The report noted that the initiative extends beyond the development of technological solutions by providing a national platform that enables educational institutions, universities, private-sector organizations, and innovators to develop and test AI applications in realistic and secure learning environments. This approach promotes the responsible use of emerging technologies while enhancing the quality of the educational process.
The World Bank highlighted that the Saudi model is built on strong collaboration among national entities, evidence-based knowledge generation, strategic partnerships, and the development of scalable practices, making it a model that other countries and education systems can draw upon to advance their own digital education ecosystems.
The report concluded that the Saudi experience offers a practical framework for developing high-quality, sustainable digital education through an integrated national system that invests in innovation and effectively links policy, implementation, and measurable impact.
