Sarooj Construction’s Vision for Oman: Suleiman Al Qasmi on Expanding Horizons and Building a Sustainable Future
Sarooj Construction Company, a pioneering force in Oman’s construction sector, is at the forefront of transforming urban landscape. As the nation strives to fulfill its Vision 2040 goals, Sarooj is redefining sustainable development through ambitious projects and key partnerships. At Cityscape Global 2024, Deputy CEO Suleiman Al Qasmi provided insights into Sarooj’s expanded role in Oman’s growth, including the development of Sarooj Oasis and its commitment to becoming a trusted partner for investors and government stakeholders.
Initially focused on infrastructure projects like roads and ports, Sarooj has evolved alongside Oman’s changing needs. “Our main focus until recently was roads and ports,” Al Qasmi explained. “Since last year, we’ve moved into new areas like housing development, water, wastewater, and renewable energy.” This shift paved the way for Sarooj Oasis, the company’s first residential development, envisioned to set a new benchmark for sustainable urban living in the newly planned Sultan Haitham City.
Sarooj Oasis reflects the company’s ambition to create iconic, eco-friendly communities. “This will be our first housing development in Oman, and we want it to be iconic,” said Al Qasmi. Working with leading consultants, Sarooj designed a project that includes 120 twin houses, 46 luxury villas, 220 apartments, and a prominent office building. Each component of Sarooj Oasis is crafted to uphold the project’s status as a standout development in sustainable urban design.
As part of Sultan Haitham City’s vision to be a green, smart city, Sarooj Oasis prioritizes sustainability and flexibility. “One of the key features is that residents will be able to extend their villas without affecting the design and the building. This allows young families to start small and expand as they grow,” Al Qasmi noted. To minimize environmental impact, Sarooj Oasis integrates sustainable solutions, aligning with Oman’s goals for eco-conscious growth. “We want this project to be remembered as a landmark, not just for Sarooj but for Oman’s sustainable future,” he added. With half of the units offered at affordable rates to Omani citizens through the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning, Sarooj Oasis also embodies accessibility and forward-thinking design.
Reflecting on the company’s evolving role, Al Qasmi shared, “We want people to remember Sarooj Oasis as our first landmark project and a symbol of our commitment to a sustainable future for the region.” Through projects like Sarooj Oasis and strategic partnerships, Sarooj Construction is shaping a new urban landscape for Oman—one that balances modernity with sustainability, honors local talent, and meets the aspirations of Oman Vision 2040.
To realize its broader vision, Sarooj has forged partnerships with regional and international companies, enhancing its capabilities in housing development. “Our strategy is to partner with top developers because no single company has all the skills needed to meet Oman’s growing demands,” Al Qasmi explained. Through alliances with firms in Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Jordan, Sarooj has strengthened its entry into Oman’s residential market, establishing itself as a key player. A core objective is to become a strategic partner for Oman’s Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning. “We restructured Sarooj specifically to align with the ministry’s vision, positioning ourselves to contribute to Oman’s major projects,” Al Qasmi shared.
Sarooj also seeks to attract regional and international investors, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable growth under Vision 2040. In addition to its growth in Oman, Sarooj is actively expanding its footprint into the GCC market. With these markets witnessing a surge in development, the company aims to be the partner of choice for developers across the region, bringing its expertise in sustainable and innovative construction solutions.
Sarooj’s commitment to Oman’s socio-economic development is further underscored by its support of local talent. “Most of our workforce consists of young Omanis who are eager to build their country,” Al Qasmi noted.
