Riyadh to Host IGF 2024 in December with over 10,000 Participants from 160 Countries
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is preparing to host the 19th edition of the United Nations Internet Governance Forum (IGF 2024) from December 15 to 19, 2024, at the King Abdulaziz International Conference Center in Riyadh.
According to a press release from the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, IGF 2024 is expected to attract more than 10,000 participants from 160 countries, in addition to more than 1,000 international speakers. The event will feature around 300 specialized sessions and workshops to discuss international trends and policies on internet governance developments, exchange experiences, information, and best practices, identify emerging digital challenges, find solutions, and reach agreements in a participatory manner among governments, the private sector, and the non-profit sector.
Minister of Communications and Information Technology Eng. Abdullah bin Amer Alswaha said that IGF Riyadh 2024 offers a global platform to promote international digital cooperation between governments, the private sector, the non-profit sector, entrepreneurs, and innovators in the era of AI. Alswaha emphasized that the forum provides a unique opportunity to cultivate new ideas that foster economic growth and prosperity worldwide. He encouraged stakeholders to visit Riyadh for the forum, where they can help shape innovative internet governance and support a prosperous and sustainable digital future for the benefit of humanity.
IGF Riyadh 2024 will be held under the theme "Innovating Together, Shaping Tomorrow" and organized around four key pillars: harnessing innovation and balancing risks in the digital space, enhancing the digital contribution to peace, development, and sustainability, advancing human rights and inclusion in the digital age, and improving digital governance for the internet we want.
The forum aims to foster a common understanding of how to leverage the opportunities of the global internet while addressing potential risks and challenges. It also seeks to advance the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, align with the strategic directions of the Saudi Digital Government, and promote the benefits of digital innovation in a way that tackles associated challenges while enhancing global peace and sustainability through digital tools.
Riyadh's hosting of IGF Riyadh 2024 reinforces Saudi Arabia’s position as a key contributor to the discussion and formulation of international digital policies, while solidifying its status as an important center for digital innovation and international collaboration.
