Horseback Riding and Target Sports Draw Crowds at Muhayil Festival
Horseback riding and target sports are proving popular attractions at the Muhayil festival in Aseer region.
Held in Muhayil governorate (80 kilometers northwest of Abha), the festival offers entertainment, sports, and shopping.
Horse riding instructor Salma Mohammed told the Saudi Press Agency that the activities, part of the Muhayil Aseer winter program, have drawn significant interest, particularly from children eager to try horseback riding and target shooting.
Mohammed and other trainers teach those interested in how to handle horses and offer guided rides. They also provide instruction in archery and the use of air rifles.
Mohammed said that her lifelong passion for horses and subsequent training courses led her to become a qualified instructor for children.
Bandar Al Hilali, owner of the festival's horse stable, said that the aim is to show the significance of horses and enable the public to perform basic horseback riding and target shooting, instructed by certified trainers.
Horseback riding instruction focuses on balance, rein handling, calming techniques, and track riding. Archery training covers proper shooting methods, and culminates in friendly competitions. Participants also learn the fundamentals of air rifle marksmanship.
Muhayil governorate, located in the Tihama Aseer region, is experiencing substantial economic and tourism growth thanks to improved public services and its mild winter climate, which make it a desirable destination for residents of the highlands.
