The Executive Director of the Al-Balsam Association: Our medical mission in Yemen marks a significant new chapter in our ongoing humanitarian efforts to save lives

Dr. Ahmed Al-Ahmari, Executive Director of the "Al-Balsam" Association for Training and Health Development, has announced the launch of a neurosurgery medical campaign at Prince Mohamed bin Salman Hospital in Aden. Running from August 17 to 23, this initiative, supported by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief), will offer free neurological and spinal surgeries to patients suffering from various neurological diseases.

Al-Ahmari highlighted that the "Al-Balsam" medical convoy to Yemen marks a significant new humanitarian initiative, building on the association’s previous efforts. This mission will provide Saudi medical expertise to meet urgent healthcare needs in Yemen. The convoy will include approximately 25 health professionals, including distinguished neurosurgeons, nurses, and technicians.

Al-Ahmari further emphasized that the medical team from the "Al-Balsam" Association will work tirelessly to deliver essential care to patients. The program aims to perform approximately 25 complex surgeries for brain tumors, spinal cord injuries, and other urgent cases requiring surgical intervention. Additionally, the team will examine over 200 patients and provide them with crucial medical advice.

Al-Ahmari explained that the medical convoy to Yemen has several key objectives: to save lives through essential neurosurgeries, to enhance the skills of local medical staff by offering training and qualifications in neurosurgery, and to equip hospitals with the necessary medical equipment to address the ongoing neurosurgical needs in Yemen.

Al-Ahmari highlighted that the medical campaign in Yemen also seeks to build sustainable capacities by enhancing the country’s neurosurgical infrastructure. This initiative aims to improve the quality of life for hundreds of Yemeni patients with neurological conditions, alleviate the pressure on the strained healthcare system, and strengthen cooperation between Saudi Arabia and Yemen in the health sector.

The Executive Director of the Al-Balsam Association for Training and Health Development emphasized that the association’s team is committed to the belief that every patient deserves a life free from pain and suffering. “Health is a fundamental right for everyone, and providing care to those in need is a noble humanitarian responsibility. The association remains dedicated to continuing its efforts to deliver comprehensive healthcare to patients in Yemen and around the world”, he added.

Last May, the "Al-Balsam" Association for Training and Health Development launched a medical campaign for open-heart surgery and interventional catheterization in Yemen, under the supervision of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief). The campaign, held at Prince Mohamed bin Salman Hospital in Aden, performed 251 procedures, including open-heart surgeries and interventional catheterizations for adult and pediatric patients. The association's medical team, comprising 24 doctors, nurses, and technicians, performed 25 open-heart surgeries, 166 interventional catheterizations for adults, and 3 heart surgeries, in collaboration with local Yemeni doctors. All surgical procedures were successful.
