Eastern Region Municipality Expands Green Cover with 1.5 Million Tree Target

The Eastern Region Municipality is continuing afforestation works across several main roads and streets as part of the 2026 afforestation season, targeting the planting of 1.5 million diverse trees in support of the Saudi Green Initiative.
Official spokesperson Faisal Al-Zahrani said this season's afforestation work includes planting 40,000 trees along five main roads in Dammam.
He noted that selecting suitable trees is key to the success of afforestation projects, given their role in providing shade, absorbing carbon dioxide, supporting biodiversity, and improving the urban environment.
He added that the municipality is implementing afforestation targets in line with approved plans, selecting species suited to local climatic conditions and maximizing the use of treated water to ensure long-term sustainability and growth.
