RGA Enhances Road Safety with Cutting-Edge Technologies

The Roads General Authority (RGA) has adopted advanced technologies as part of its "Distinct and Safe Roads" campaign to improve road safety and efficiency across the Kingdom, demonstrating the RGA’s commitment to modernizing infrastructure and ensuring world-class standards in road maintenance and safety.
The campaign features the world’s largest survey and evaluation fleet, equipped with artificial intelligence and state-of-the-art tools. These include devices for scanning road surface damage, measuring skid resistance, analyzing road layer deviations, and assessing roughness and thickness. This technology allows precise monitoring and data analysis, supporting timely maintenance decisions and improving road quality.
A key feature of the campaign is the introduction of a ground paint measuring device used for the first time in the Middle East, which combines a high-resolution camera and GPS to accurately locate and measure points at speeds of up to 80 km/h. It evaluates the reflectivity of road markings, creating a comprehensive database that enhances maintenance operations and reduces costs.
The RGA has also integrated drone technology to inspect and assess roads, providing access to hard-to-reach areas such as culverts and obstacles. Drones also conduct thermal scans to monitor cleanliness and automate inspection procedures effectively.
