Masam Project Clears 51 Minefields in Al-Dhalea, Restoring Safety to Citizens

The Masam Landmine Clearance Project – Yemen announced the successful clearance of 51 minefields in Al-Dhalea Governorate, southern Yemen, between late 2019 and early 2025.

The Masam Team 18 cleared over 2,000 antipersonnel mines, along with explosive devices and unexploded ordnance, across the governorate. The team also conducted six mine demolition operations in areas remote from populated areas, adhering to international safety standards to protect local communities.

The clearance operations covered over 234,379 square meters of mine-contaminated land, including farms, homes, schools, and water wells.

Residents of the Qa'atabah District affirmed that the Masam project’s efforts have been crucial in restoring normalcy to regions previously plagued by the danger of mines, which had previously led to the displacement of farmers and the destruction of schools and health facilities. As a result, Masam's efforts have played a significant role in the gradual improvement of the situation.

It is worth noting that the Masam project continues its operations in all liberated Yemeni governorates with 33 engineering teams, as several areas still contain mines that pose a threat to citizens' safety. These efforts are part of a broader initiative to restore security and stability to the affected regions.
