Saudi Arabia has chaired the Arab States preparatory meeting of the Plenipotentiary Conference (PP-26) of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) to unify efforts, harmonize perspectives, and discuss mutual decisions and directions, marking the launch of the Global Symposium for Regulators (GSR25) in Riyadh.
According to a press release issued, discussions focused on finalizing decisions related to PP-26, including supporting the candidacies of the Kingdom and other Arab countries to retain seats at the ITU Council, membership in the Radio Regulations Board, and other nominations for leadership positions within the ITU.
The release added that Saudi Arabia’s leadership of the Arab States team reflects its global standing, active engagement in international decision-making, and strategic partnership with the ITU in advancing its objectives and the Sustainable Development Goals. It also highlights the Kingdom’s role as a key driver of innovation in the fields of communications, space, and technology worldwide.
The PP-26 is the highest authority of the ITU, the United Nations’ specialized agency for information and communication technology (ICT), and is held every four years. Member states determine the ITU’s future role, set its strategic direction, and define its capacity to shape the global development and governance of ICT.
