UNESCO RCQE Builds on Saudi Support to Advance Global Education Quality
The UNESCO Regional Center for Quality and Excellence in Education (RCQE) is one of Saudi Arabia’s key initiatives to advance education quality across Arab countries. It serves as a specialized hub of expertise, helping develop education policies and practices and strengthen cooperation and partnerships with regional and international institutions and organizations.
Since its establishment in Saudi Arabia in 2014, the RCQE has received considerable government attention, support, and patronage. This is reflected in the royal approvals for its establishment, support for its institutional sustainability, the renewal of its agreement with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), and the allocation of a strategic site in Jubail Industrial City.
These steps reflect Saudi Arabia’s commitment to establishing specialized institutions that serve the education sector and strengthen Saudi Arabia’s regional and international presence in knowledge and development.
Director General of the RCQE Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Mudaires said that as Saudi Arabia marks 80 years since joining UNESCO, the occasion highlights the substantial support and continued attention the Kingdom’s leadership has given to the education sector. He noted that Saudi Arabia’s patronage and support have helped establish the RCQE, enable it to fulfill its mission, and strengthen its position as a specialized hub for expertise in education quality and excellence.
The RCQE’s contributions have been particularly evident across several strategic areas, including developing the Arab Model for Quality and Excellence in Education; programs focused on anticipating the future of education quality; improving the quality of the teaching profession; developing education indicators and a regional data observatory; and supporting lifelong learning, green education, and education quality during crises and emergencies.
