flynas Sustainability Performance in 2024: Partnership for Carbon Offsetting in Global Markets, Reducing Emissions by 625,000 Tons—Equivalent to Planting 25 Million Trees

flynas has made significant progress in sustainability in 2024 across its three key tracks: carbon offsetting, adopting initiatives with a lasting impact on society, the economy, and the environment, and digital transformation.
As a result, operational efficiency improved, and carbon emissions were reduced by 625,152 tons over 48 months, equivalent to planting 25 million trees by the end of 2024. flynas also participated in launching the first voluntary carbon credit trading platform and the third auction for high-quality carbon credits. Additionally, the airline introduced several initiatives to provide a more inclusive travel experience for various segments of society, including people with disabilities, aligning with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals.
As part of its commitment to carbon reduction, flynas joined 22 major Saudi and international companies in the first voluntary carbon credit trading platform, launched by the Regional Voluntary Carbon Market Company (RVCMC)—a subsidiary of the Public Investment Fund (PIF)—on its first trading day in November 2024.
The platform aims to increase the supply and demand for high-quality carbon credits across the Global South, drive financing for climate projects that require funding, and support the transition toward net-zero global emissions, in line with the Paris Agreement's goals for reducing greenhouse gas emissions worldwide.
Earlier in 2024, flynas signed an agreement with RVCMC to cooperate in carbon offsetting, environmental protection, and sustainability. This strategic partnership represents an important step in flynas’ sustainability programs, ensuring that its initiatives align with Saudi Arabia’s goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2060 and fulfilling the Kingdom’s commitments under the global climate agreement.
flynas also successfully reduced its carbon emissions by more than 625,000 tons of CO₂ over 48 months, equivalent to planting 25 million trees, through multiple initiatives focused on sustainable operations and environmental protection.
The airline improved fuel efficiency by upgrading 90% of its fleet, which now consists of 53 next-generation Airbus A320neo aircraft—the most advanced and fuel-efficient single-aisle aircraft globally. As a result, CO₂ emissions were reduced by an average of 13,024 tons per month, equivalent to planting 521,000 trees monthly. The A320neo aircraft offer 25% greater fuel efficiency and cut CO₂ emissions by 21% per 100 kilometers compared to previous-generation aircraft.
Furthermore, flynas adopted technological solutions through partnerships with leading international tech providers to monitor, analyze, and reduce fuel consumption and carbon emissions, significantly improving flight operational efficiency.
As part of its second sustainability track, focused on initiatives with a lasting social impact, flynas launched the first initiative of its kind in Saudi aviation by introducing training programs for flight attendants in sign language and specialized training for interacting with autistic passengers.
This initiative, announced in January 2024, was developed in collaboration with the Saudi Association for Hearing Impairment and the Saudi Autism Society. It aims to create a more inclusive travel experience, ensuring that at least one crew member proficient in sign language is present on every flynas flight.
The program includes theoretical education and practical training for flight attendants and ground staff, teaching them effective communication techniques for passengers with hearing impairments and autism. The training introduces strategies for providing a comfortable and supportive environment for passengers on the autism spectrum, enhancing their travel experience.
Additionally, flynas sponsored medical flights for autistic passengers in partnership with the Society of Autism Families, coinciding with World Autism Awareness Day on April 2. Over the course of a year, flynas will provide travel vouchers for up to 10 autistic passengers and their companions per month.
Moreover, flynas is sponsoring 120 airline tickets for breast cancer patients undergoing medical treatment, in collaboration with the Zahra Association.
flynas also participated as the official airline sponsor of the 6th Annual Forum for Families of People with Disabilities, hosted by the Liajlehum Association for Disability in Madinah from December 2-4, 2024, coinciding with the International Day of Persons with Disabilities on December 3.
In December 2024, flynas launched a tree-planting initiative with the contribution of the company's employees, which includes the ability to digitally track the location of the tree, its growth stages and the size of its contribution to carbon offsets reduction through a digital account for each donor.
Additionally, flynas collaborated with the Saudi Investment Recycling Company (SIRC) to recycle approximately 400 pieces of equipment and machinery as part of its broader commitment to sustainability.
As part of its third sustainability track, flynas enhanced its digital services by launching the fourth generation of its mobile application, improving self-service options for travelers. This upgrade offers greater flexibility in trip management and easier access to key services.
Additionally, flynas relaunched the flynas Holidays platform (nasholidays), adding six new languages and over 20 currency payment options. This upgrade offers an integrated travel booking experience, allowing guests to book flights, hotels, transportation, travel insurance, and curated experiences through a single, unified platform.
