Initiative Unveiled to Localize Natural Silk Production for Kaaba Kiswa
Attendees of the fifth annual forum for development initiatives in the regions' principalities, being held at the King Salman International Convention Center, were introduced to an inspiring initiative aimed at localizing natural silk production for the Kiswa of the Holy Kaaba and the Prophet's Sacred Chamber.
Presented by the Jazan Mountains Development Authority, the initiative focuses on producing natural silk used for the Kiswa of the Holy Kaaba and the Prophet's Sacred Chamber, rather than importing it, through a partnership with the General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque. Under the initiative, the Jazan Mountains Development Authority will manage the production of natural silk as raw material and deliver it to the King Abdulaziz Complex for the Holy Kaaba Kiswa according to the specifications outlined in the project's preliminary study.
The initiative was spotlighted at Jazan Region's pavilion at the forum, which is organized by the Principality of Madinah Region and lasting two days. The initiative aims to localize the cultivation and production of silk, a rare natural material derived from the silkworm, used in various industries and textile work. It aims to create job opportunities, enhance the income of farmers in mountainous areas, foster an attractive investment environment, promote sustainable development, and contribute to increasing the local output of natural silk production. The initiative received approval from the General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque.
