King Abdul-Aziz Medical City.. A Humanitarian City
Visitors to King Abdul-Aziz Medical City may experience feelings of happiness and pride of the level of services provided, not only to patients admitted to the hospital wards, but also to visitors and those who have referrals to the various medical clinics. Visitors will come across an accurate organized network of medical, administrative, and emergency services, particularly the logistic services provided by the Military Police Department, which regulate traffic within the medical city in addition to managing the flow of vehicles crossing the main gates of the medical city toward the places specified for car parking.
In fact, all these services draw visitors' attention to the administrative and organizational procedures implemented in very high-level service standards that reflect the qualified human resources of the National Guard's senior health affairs departments that extend great efforts for taking care of patients, residents and citizens of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Kingdom of Humanitarian Services, Medical Care, and Relief Aid.
During my recent visits to some hospitalized relative patients in various medical facilities, and through my observations and impressions, I have decided to write an article so as to reflect and convey to the people of English speaking countries through this newspaper a small part of the huge services provided by the concerned departments, medical teams, emergency and nursing crews in King Abdul-Aziz Medical City, as it is very difficult to summarize all the efforts and services provided by the Medical City in one journal article, not to mention all the duties and medical techniques used by the Health, and Supervisory Authority in King Abdul-Aziz Medical City.
From the moment a visitor passes through the main entrances of the Medical City and during his/her tour through the corridors and various hospital wards, he/she notices that many physicians, nurses and employees look at the arriving guests with a bright smile and ask them kindly and friendly if they can offer any help related to guidance or information services to ease and facilitate the means of transportation and communication with the different concerned departments and service agencies in the Medical City, which makes the visitor feels as if he/she is on a tourist trip during which the visitor sees the latest technologies of medical centers in the world and subsequently meet many people of different nationalities in one city, in addition to the visitor's impression of the beautiful gardens spread throughout the Medical City as well as the restaurants and cafes where visitors meet their patients for some time in an atmosphere of familiarity and happiness accompanied by satisfaction and peace of mind.
Honestly, I had the honor of working in this medical city for one year, more than forty years ago, but what I've seen today after all these years passed, and after the establishment of King Saud bin Abdul-Aziz University for Health Sciences located next to the Medical City, is really considered a source of pride to what the medical services have reached an advanced level in our home country, and specifically those services provided in King Abdul-Aziz Medical City, where the memory recalled the stages of great development starting from 1985 until 2025 in terms of the qualitative shift in the construction expansion of the city, as well as what relates to the quality of humanitarian services and medical services that have gained a wide international reputation for performing one of the most complicated surgeries, such as the separation of conjoined twins, which are performed by professional Saudi national surgeons.
