OIC Welcomes UN General Assembly's Adoption of the New York Declaration on Two-State Solution
The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) welcomed the historic resolution adopted yesterday by an overwhelming majority of the United Nations General Assembly, which includes the New York Declaration and its annexes issued by the International Conference for the Peaceful Settlement of the Palestinian Question and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution.
The widespread endorsement constitutes an international consensus and commitment to work towards the establishment of a Palestinian state, ending the Israeli occupation, and achieving a just and comprehensive peace in the region.
The OIC commended the pioneering role played by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and France in co-chairing the conference and their unremitting and joint efforts in mobilizing support for the adoption and drafting of the final document in consultation with the heads of the working groups.
The OIC expressed its profound gratitude to all the countries that co-sponsored this resolution and voted in favor of its adoption by the General Assembly, embodying its support for peace, justice, and international legitimacy.
It called on all states to assume their responsibilities and immediately move to implement the measures contained in the New York Declaration, including full recognition of the State of Palestine, support for its full membership in the United Nations, and pressure on Israel, the occupying force, to halt its crimes of occupation, aggression, settlement, displacement, destruction, and starvation against the Palestinian people.
The OIC affirmed its commitment to working and cooperating with all international parties to ensure the implementation of this Declaration, enabling the Palestinian people to attain their inalienable rights, foremost among which is their right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state on the June 4, 1967, borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
