OIC Participates in Global Summit of Religious Leaders in Baku
The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) participated in the Global Summit of Religious Leaders, held in Baku, Azerbaijan, as part of the 29th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29).
OIC Assistant Secretary-General for Science and Technology Ambassador Aftab Ahmad Khokher noted that the summit aims to raise awareness and foster a deeper understanding of the global climate change challenge. He urged humanity to live in harmony with nature and mobilize ethical action to protect the planet and environment. Ambassador Khokher emphasized the OIC’s support for initiatives that enhance energy efficiency, promote sustainable agriculture, and ensure the responsible use of water, with a commitment to embedding these practices in societies.
He highlighted that the OIC has established a platform for religious leaders, which successfully countered negative perceptions regarding polio vaccination campaigns in Pakistan and Afghanistan. Ambassador Khokher stressed the importance of uniting religious leaders worldwide to promote climate justice, noting that they are trusted voices within their communities and can bridge gaps, facilitate dialogue on environmental responsibility, and encourage collective action.
