KFSHRC Implements Advanced Technology for Single-Step Cancerous Tissue Examination
King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre (KFSHRC) in Madinah has successfully implemented Large-Format Tissue Processing (Supa Mega Block), a novel technology that accelerates the examination of cancerous tissues after removal. This ensures the complete excision of affected areas in a single step, resulting in time savings, cost reduction, and an enhanced patient experience. KFSHRC-Madinah is the first medical facility in Saudi Arabia to adopt this advanced technology.
This technology enables pathologists to comprehensively scan excised tissues to assess the pattern and extent of cancer, accurately identifying the boundaries of cancer-affected areas and confirming that tissue margins are free of cancer cells. This verifies the success of the medical procedure, eliminating the need for additional interventions.
Additionally, the technology streamlines the process of correlating radiological images with anatomical samples. Previously, this required multiple stages and numerous lab slides due to the limited tissue size examined by traditional methods. Large-Format Tissue Processing, however, allows specialists to examine four times the amount of tissue in a single test, significantly enhancing diagnostic accuracy and efficiency.
