Saudi Arabia Elected to Chair WIPO Union Assemblies and Committees

The Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property (SAIP) participated in the 66th session of the WIPO General Assembly held in Geneva. Saudi Arabia was elected to chair several international assemblies and committees. This milestone highlights the Kingdom's leading role and the international community’s confidence in its active participation in the field of intellectual property.

 Deputy CEO of Corporate Affairs at SAIP Eng. Sami bin Ali Al-Sudais was elected Chair of the Berne Union Assembly, which protects literary and artistic works and the rights of their creators, allowing creators to control how their works are used and under what conditions. In addition, Deputy CEO of Corporate Resources Fawaz bin Essa Almuballi was elected Chair of the Nice Union Assembly, which oversees the international classification system for trademarks, serving as a unified reference for all member states.

 Executive Director for Partnerships and International Relations Hesham bin Saad Alarifi was elected as Chair of Berne Union Executive Committee, one of the main committees within the structure of WIPO, which is responsible for monitoring and implementing the obligations of Member States under the Berne Convention for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works. Executive Director for Patents Mizael Alharbi was elected as Vice Chair of the International Patent Classification Union Assembly, which focuses on developing and updating the international patent classification system to keep pace with technological and innovative advancements.

 Saudi Arabia continues to play an active role in the organization through its election as a member on the Coordination Committee, which performs key functions including appointing the next director-general and overseeing the organization’s strategic efforts to support governance and improve its effectiveness.

 Saudi Arabia was also re-elected as a member of the Program and Budget Committee, a committee constituted by the WIPO General Assembly to deal with program, budget, premises, and finances.

 The election of Saudi Arabia to these assemblies and committees strengthens its position as a trusted and influential global partner in shaping the international intellectual property landscape. It also underpins its goal to become a worldwide hub for innovation and creativity, contributing to the development of a sustainable, knowledge-driven economy that benefits creators both locally and globally.
